Laziness

It's amazing how easily I can settle into a routine of doing Absolutely Nothing anywhere I go. I could walk around the city taking pix any day...but I don't. I'm sure that sometime in January I will go into a panic because I haven't seen anything. My only excuse is that my internal clock has figured out the time change and I don't really start functioning properly til noon. And when sunset is at 3:43 pm that doesn't leave a lot of time to explore far from home. Like any city you just don't wander in certain areas alone after dark.

I told you I am boring!

John and I got dressed up and went to the ballet last night. Tchaikovsky's The Sleeping Beauty. I prefer ballet to opera; when we saw Madame Butterfly last year I fell asleep. By the end of the ballet everything looked surreal to me; the bright lights and bright colors were ultravibrant and rather unsettling somehow. I wish there were more cultural things like this in P'cola. I like a good reason to dress up.

Still no snow. Next winter I'm going to Alaska...or maybe Canada. I just have to work out how to get there.

This is Wrong!

http://www.usatoday.com/weather/storms/winter/2008-12-11-snow-south_N.htm

4000 miles from home in Scotland where one expects to see snow, Nothing. And they're making snowmen in Jackson Square. What the hell? Very disappointing.

More sad news

Squirrel's buddy Onyx passed away early this morning. He was ancient for a rat, crippled, and nearly blind and deaf; we expected to lose him first. He became very depressed yesterday and his health declined overnight. I can't help but wonder if he was hanging on for Squirrel's sake.

Goodbye Squirrel

I got news today from my ratsitter that my ratboy Squirrel passed away last night. He was a lardass so a heart attack is the most likely culprit. Rest in peace baby.

Brrrrrr!

34F/1C...ok, not so cold for some of my friends, but cold enough for SNOW! It's been sunny today, but heavy snow is forecast for tonight - up to 8 inches in some areas. Yay! If we do get snow, and it's early enough, I want to go out and take pictures. George Square is just two blocks away, and it's decorated for Christmas with lights, Santa's Grotto, and an ice skating rink. It would look wonderful with real snow!

Moisturizer - don't leave home without it!

I went for a walk the other day without using my facial moisturizer...bad idea. I could feel my skin chafe in the blowing wind. It gets cold and windy in Florida, but I've never had this problem at home. As much as I hate humidity I have to admit that it is beneficial to the skin.

I'll try this one more time....

I'm giving blogger a second chance. I deleted my blog and recreated it. Same title and everything. We'll see how it goes. If it gets locked again I won't start another one here. If it doesn't work for you, drop me an email and I'll send updates that way. ~Ang

Saturday Nov 8
We went to Edinburgh yesterday for the whole day. One of the places we visited was Greyfriars Kirkyard. Skull and crossbones and skeleton carvings are very prominent on the crypts and such. I took some pix but haven't downloaded them yet. The first skull I tried to photograph was difficult. Neither John nor I could get a pic from the pathway - it kept turning out black. I finally walked closer and got a good pic; I think the fellow was being ornery. http://www.ivebeenthere.co.uk/tips/7779 This is a little piece about Greyfriars Bobby, the dog that visited his master's grave for 14 years.

We also had a short visit to the National Museum of Scotland and saw Dolly the sheep. I find it rather disturbing that she was stuffed and put on display.

I finally got to meet and see Saint Judes Infirmary live. They're fairly well known regionally, but still down to earth and friendly. I can't really describe their sound, but they put on a damn fine show. Look them up on MySpace.
Evening. Very lazy day trying to recover from Friday. Not feeling so well - feverish, sore throat. Amazingly my legs don't ache from all the walking. I must be in better shape than I thought.

Sunday Nov 9
Got rained on while out shopping. Imagine that! I need to get an umbrella. Everyday shopping here is like Christmas shopping at home; stores are ridiculously crowded and messy. I think I'll be getting my Christmas shopping done ASAP since it can only get worse (TG for Ativan!). I've gotten a good idea of where to find things and not get lost. This week I'll put that to the test.

Saturday Nov 15
I've had to send another request to have my blog unlocked at Blogspot. I don't think they are actually doing anything to resolve the problem. If anyone knows of another blog site out there that will actually work, let me know.
This has been an uneventful week...nothing much to report (unless you're interested in grocery shopping) and no new pix to post.

We went to Edinburgh to see Saint Jude's Infirmary again last night. The opening act was a little group called eagleowl http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=20280800 I'm no good at trying to describe how something sounds, so I won't even try. I just found their music beautiful and peaceful, and Clarissa has an amazing voice. SJI were wonderful again. They really get into what they're doing and put on a fun show. Guitar player Grant makes me think of a very shy Emo Philips on speed.

It's sunny today! We may go out this afternoon...there's a cathedral down by the river that I'd like to see...St. Andrew's. I'll probably take pix of it and anything else that catches my eye while we're out. Stay tuned.
